Training Opportunity Announcement
Papertrail, in partnership with Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, will be running a pilot training programme from 2-4 September to support directors and BSL Interpreters to develop skills in creating theatre that can be accessed by people who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Creative Stages will bring together stage directors and BSL Interpreters (level 6) to take part in a three-day professional development opportunity.
Over three days, directors will participate in playful sessions that focus on creative access and the rehearsal process, including creating accessible warm-ups and working on staging with access in mind. For BSL interpreters it’s a chance to find out more about interpreting for stage performance and developing your skills in this area.
The training is led by leading practitioners in creative access including Jenny Sealey (Graeae) and BSL interpreters, Julie Doyle and Tony Evans. It will be facilitated by the Co-Artistic Directors of Papertrail, Bridget Keehan and Jonny Cotsen.
All information about the training for Directors and BSL interpreters, and how to apply, can be found on Papertrail’s website: https://papertrail.org.uk/news/
The deadline for applications is 25 July 2025 and shortlisted applicants will be notified by 31 July.
Spaces are very limited, so early application is advisable.

Workshops & Residencies:
The company creates bespoke workshops for a wide-range of settings. We have extensive experience of working within colleges, community centres and prisons. Every workshop is tailor made for each group but will include key aspects of the Papertrail Process such as, ‘life-mapping’; exploring place and story, and drawing on a range of texts: historical, personal, mythical and political, as starting points for the creation of performance.
