In October 2024 we premiered our latest production, A Visit by Siân Owen. The response from audiences was hugely positive and we are planning to tour this remarkable show next year.
A Visit is about crime, justice and childcare and who takes care of the kids when a mum gets sent to prison.
Fifteen year old Angharad is visiting her mum Ffion in a prison far away from their home in Aberdare. She’s been taken there by her Aunty Carys, who has been doing her best to look after her, but it’s not easy taking care of a teenager and Aunty Carys never planned on being a mum. So who is going to look after Angharad?
Papertrail’s Bridget Keehan and Siân Owen have created a gripping piece of theatre inspired by the real life stories of the women and young people they have worked with.
Audience responses and reviews :
“A Visit is a must-see force of a production…If you want to see more plays but never seem to find the time, make time for A Visit. If you want to get out of the house, use your freedom to see A Visit. If you know or don’t know anyone who has been incarcerated, go and see A Visit. Go with your mother. Go with your sisters. Go with your friends. Go on your own. Go and see A Visit.” Nation.Cymru
“The device of two British Sign Language interpreters (Claire Anderson and Cathryn McShane) playing prison guards with an almost phantom-like presence, while signing the dialogue, is inspired.” The Stage
“”A hard hitting, relevant piece for our time, excellently delivered by a talented cast and production team.” Get The Chance
“What a fantastic experience seeing A Visit at YMa, so powerful emotive and raw. The acting, the music, the incredible inclusivity-every bit of it was superb.”
Alex Jones MP for Pontypridd.
“Stunning performances. Heartbreaking. So glad I went.” Lisa Parry
“Congratulations to @bridgetekee @SianOCx
& the cast for such a beautiful heart wrenching cry for change in the prison system. A Visit highlights that social injustice leads to criminal injustice – punishing mothers & families with no public benefit whatever #timeforchange “ Anna Hermann, Clean Break.
“Congratulations to Papertrail on this wonderful theatre show. The writing is pure power …with a stunning powerhouse cast.” Catherine Paskell
“Huge congratulations to all involved.” Michael Sheen
